65 vintage trailers fill Big Texan RV Park for Tin Can Tourists open house [rO4q8pQKWnk]
One of the many events taking place on Friday, in Amarillo, commemorating the Route 66 Centennial was the Tin Can Tourists Open House at the Big Texan RV Park. “We have 65 participating vintage trailers and were all here to celebrate the Route 66 Centennial,” said Barry Kole, member of the Tin Can Tourists. It’s all about finding one, restoring it, and showcasing a vintage travel trailer. For a couple of hours on Friday, the public was invited to come in and get an up-close-and-personal look at travel trailers dating back to the 1940’s. “When you see them all together in one park like this for a rally, you kind of lose sight of the fact that one is from Oklahoma, two are from Texas, and the rest of them are from California,” said Rose Larson, Oklahoma representative for Tin Can Tourists. “There are so few and far between them that people are in awe of them.” “There is one RV that was built in 1946, and it’s got an upper level in it with two queen-size beds,” said Andrew Rosenberg, Big Texan RV Ranch operating manager. “It’s absolutely beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.” One caravan came from the east, the other caravan of vintage trailers came from the west, and they met right here in Amarillo and stayed here till Sunday. “Most of us go to regular rally events during the year and the season and come from all over to rally with the trailers,” said Kole.
