France is in the midst of its third heat wave since the spring, and with summer barely underway. In Paris, where the vast majority of buildings and homes do not have air-conditioning, temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s this week. France had its hottest June on record this year and recorded some 2,000 excess deaths caused by the extreme heat. That's an increase of 30%. Deaths rose by 62% in the Paris region. Scientists say Europe is heating faster than any other continent, partly due to melting glaciers and the changing atmospheric and ocean currents surrounding the continent.
